Yes, owners of Kia EV6, EV9, and Niro EV models can now directly access Tesla's extensive Supercharger network across North America. This integration, which began rolling out in late 2024, adds over 21,500 DC fast chargers to the options available for Kia electric vehicle (EV) drivers. Based on our assessment experience, this move significantly enhances the practicality of Kia EVs for long-distance travel, bringing the total number of available fast-charging stations to more than 40,000.
The process is designed to be seamless. Kia owners can locate, navigate to, and pay for charging sessions at compatible Tesla Superchargers directly through their vehicle's infotainment screen or the Kia Access smartphone app. This eliminates the need for multiple apps or accounts, integrating Tesla's network into the existing Kia ecosystem. The key to this compatibility is the adoption of the North American Charging Standard (NACS), the charging port type pioneered by Tesla. For older Kia EV models equipped with the Combined Charging System (CCS) port, the automaker provides a NACS adapter, allowing them to connect to the Supercharger stalls.
Kia's commitment to NACS is a significant shift for the brand. Starting with the 2025 EV6 and 2026 EV9, new Kias will come standard with a native NACS port, eliminating the need for an adapter. For current owners, Kia began distributing free NACS adapters in September 2024. If you took delivery of your EV after September 4, 2024, and did not receive an adapter, you can purchase one from a Kia dealership. This strategic move future-proofs Kia's EVs, ensuring they can leverage what is becoming the dominant charging standard in North America.
The primary benefit is a dramatic increase in charging infrastructure. Tesla's Supercharger network is widely regarded as one of the most reliable and extensive DC fast-charging networks available. For Kia drivers, this means:
The integration works seamlessly without the need for aftermarket solutions or the use of Tesla's Magic Dock technology at certain stations.
To take advantage of this new capability, Kia EV owners should:
This integration marks a major step forward in EV infrastructure interoperability, directly benefiting Kia owners by providing more reliable and convenient charging choices.
