FOR SALE: 1972 BMW 2002A. This car is an Australian delivered, two owner, low mileage survivor car! One family owned from new till around 2021 when the long standing BMW Car Club Canberra Committee member, and friend, sadly passed away. The car was sold to a family friend who unfortunately is not able to drive any longer. This 02 is in the rare and desirable colour of Ceylon Gold. The bodywork is straight with no major dents or marks. Being a Canberra car for most of its life, the dreaded rust is not much of an issue. There is a small rust hole in the spare wheel well and a rust bubble on the lower front guard. There is evidence of rust behind this on the lower guard as well. Apart form that, the car is rust free. The paintwork is mostly original. The paint on the bonnet, boot and roof had cracked over time and was recently touched up by the current owner. The body presents as a 6/10 in total in my opinion. Mechanically, the car is very good, having being serviced by a well known BMW specialist in Canberra for most of its life. It starts on the button, has no oil leaks and drives well. There are four near new Bridgestone tyres fitted to the car on its original steelies complete with original hubcaps. The glass is good all round. The interior is completely original and shows its age. The front carpets are worn though and would ideally need replacing. The original vinyl on the front seats has cracked on the seams but can be saved with repair. The horse-hair stuffing in the front seats has pretty much disintegrated, and will need to be redone with foam to get the seat shapes back. The back seat is still good but would benefit from the same. The sunroof is stiff and could do with a service to get it running smoothly again. This is not a show car but is a very solid example of an original 02 and would suit someone who would want to preserve its heritage. It would suit a rolling restoration while you enjoy the car as a weekend special. There are not many of these around in this original condition.
