Description

We’re hunting for a sharp, relentlessly curious Strategy & Operations Leader to keep the world’s largest freelance marketplace running smoother, smarter and faster than ever. Strategy & Ops is the connective tissue of Freelancer. You’ll sit where data, product, policy, payments, growth, and real-world execution collide- translating high-level vision into global reality, then iterating until it hums. If you thrive on untangling complex problems, rallying cross-functional squads, and turning insight into impact, read on. About Us Thirteen-time Webby award-winning Freelancer.com is the world’s largest freelancing and crowdsourcing marketplace by total number of users and projects posted with more than 80 million users who have posted 25 million jobs. We work with everyone from consumers to NASA in over 3,000 areas as diverse as website development, marketing, copywriting, astrophysics, aerospace engineering and manufacturing. Freelancer owns Escrow.com, the world’s largest online escrow company with over US$8 billion in transactions secured, powering the sale of jet parts to oil wells. Freelancer also owns Loadshift, a marketplace with more freight on a typical day than the distance from the earth to the moon, with over 800 million kilometres posted since inception. This won't be your typical cog-in-the-machine type of job. If you're a high achiever with talent, looking for something more than a boring job in corporate, want to work with the best and brightest and don't need to be handheld, this is the job for you. If you join a mega-cap technology company as the 10,000th hire you might struggle to figure out the impact you are making. If you join a startup, you might get to work on the latest fad, but likely have few mentors to learn from, work on toy problems and never change the world. At Freelancer you’ll get to work on a highly diverse, global set of internet-scale challenges, including the exciting application of emerging technologies like AI, where you will make a meaningful difference with real responsibility, while rapidly building your skills. We run a meritocracy - we actively promote from within. You’ll also change lives- our mission is to provide one billion jobs. Not many companies actually make a difference like Freelancer does in providing opportunity and income to people all around the world. Requirements: Experience in strategy, operations, consulting, fintech or marketplace environments, with proven success translating high-level goals into phased, ROI-positive execution. Demonstrated ability to formulate data-driven recommendations; fluency with SQL (or similar) and self-serve analytics is essential. Experience steering cross-functional teams (Product, Engineering, Payments, Trust & Safety, Growth, Legal) through feature readiness reviews, launches and post-launch optimisations. Track record of improving marketplace economics-pricing, liquidity, conversion-through experimentation and rapid iteration. Foundational understanding of AI/ML concepts, data pipelines and model-driven product features; able to spot opportunities to automate manual processes or enhance user experience with AI. Comfortable evaluating model performance metrics and integrating findings into operational roadmaps. End-to-end ownership of multi-team initiatives spanning time zones; adept at risk mitigation, stakeholder alignment and clear, concise communicator-equally comfortable writing an exec memo and drafting a support macro. Skilled at conducting formal & informal user interviews, synthesising qualitative insights and converting them into scalable process or product improvements. Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or technical field (Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics) or equivalent experience. Bonus for exposure to marketplace dynamics, international expansion, or high-volume payments infrastructure. Structured problem-solver who turns ambiguity into phased, ROI-driven execution plans. Benefits: A meritocratic culture with the ability to take ownership and fast track your career. Weekly Town Halls with the all important Q&A session with the CEO (you really can ask him anything). Friday lunches - We finish each week with a catered lunch. Every Friday we offer a different cuisine from local restaurants. Fully stocked kitchens + yes we do have beer taps (and a bar with a killer view) Hack-a-thons - Get hacking and programming in this quarterly company-wide where teams create solutions to existing problems and win prizes. The 2-day event is filled with games, events, shows, food and more. Fun events (we once built a soccer stadium in the office with two tonnes of turf). Located at Grosvenor Place - Home of Freelancer HQ, this iconic building and location with harbour views with weekly and complimentary classes, activities, events, promotions, competitions and deals. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better: Change lives every day – Everything we do as part of our jobs contribute to improving the lives of our users on a global scale.
