In recent history with the return of the Jews to this land and the modern re-establishment of the nation of Israel in 1948, the tensions have escalated with others who claim the land as their own. Terrorist attacks and war have plagued this region over this issue. The escalation of violence on 7th Oct 2023 and the war that followed appears to have reached a turning point with high hopes held by many for peace and security.\n\nWe are not a political organisation that involves ourselves with the decisions and actions that governments or political entities make. However, we are very much interested in what the Bible has to say about the Jewish people and this piece of land with Jerusalem as the historic centre piece in this controversy. The prophet Zechariah said in chapter 12v3 “And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.”\n\nWe plan to look at some of the history as well as the current emerging situation and see how it is heading in the direction foretold in the biblical record. The ancient fathers of the Jewish people, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (renamed Israel) received promises from God. These promises included Abraham’s family and the nation that would come from his seed, Isaac and Jacob, the Jewish nation. While the nation of Israel failed God’s laws (as we all do) they still have a special place in God’s plan. God stands by His promises, and He has also invited us to be part of his plan. The hope of Abraham is extended to all nations through the work of the Lord Jesus Christ, and we all have been invited to be part of God’s plan. Galatians 3v28 states that among the believers “There is neither Jew nor Greek (Greek = non-Jew), there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.”\n\nThe increasing interest of nations in the current Middle East situation and in particular the prospect of a period of peace and safety shows how close we are to the fulfillment of these things that God’s word tells us about in the Bible.\n\n* The Bible describes a future northern invader in Ezekiel 38v11 saying “I will invade a land of unwalled towns; I will advance against those living quietly in security – all of them living without walls and barred gates” (NET).\n* The warning in 1 Thessalonians 5v2-3 to the believers is about the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ “For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
