Hyundai is streamlining the EV ownership experience by integrating payment capabilities directly into its MyHyundai app and introducing a Plug-and-Charge system for its upcoming electric models, starting with the 2025 Ioniq 5 and 2026 Ioniq 9. This initiative, partnering with major networks like Ionna, Tesla Superchargers, and EVgo, aims to eliminate the hassle of managing multiple charging apps and payment methods, making public charging as simple as plugging in the cable.
For many electric vehicle owners, the process of finding a charger, opening a specific network's app, and manually processing payment can be frustrating. Hyundai's solution leverages its existing Bluelink connected services. Owners will be able to use the MyHyundai app to find a compatible charger, navigate to it, and pay for the session using a pre-linked credit card, all within a single interface.

By consolidating payments, Hyundai removes the need to download and manage separate apps for each charging provider. This not only saves storage space on a user's phone but also simplifies the entire charging workflow. Plug-and-Charge is an advanced technology that automates the charging and payment process. Once a driver plugs their compatible Hyundai EV into a supported charger, the station and the vehicle communicate securely. The system automatically identifies the car, starts the charging session, and bills the owner's linked payment account without any further action required.
This "hands-free" payment technology will be available with select partners, initially including Ionna, Tesla Superchargers, and ChargePoint (on chargers equipped with Plug-and-Chare compatibility). To activate this feature, owners simply need to enable in-app charging within the MyHyundai app and set up their vehicle for Plug-and-Charge capabilities. From that point forward, charging at compatible stations becomes a seamless experience.
These new convenience features will debut on Hyundai's next-generation electric vehicles. The rollout will begin with the 2025 Ioniq 5 and the new three-row 2026 Ioniq 9. Subsequently, all new Ioniq-badged and electric models from Hyundai will come equipped with this capability. The brand has also stated plans to expand the number of compatible charging networks over time, further increasing the utility for owners.
