How Does the Genesis Electrified GV70 Perform in a Car Seat Check?

The Genesis Electrified GV70 offers a luxurious and refined electric driving experience, but its rear seat presents a mixed bag for parents installing child safety seats. While the Latch system is top-notch, legroom challenges with rear-facing seats may complicate daily use for taller front-seat passengers. Based on our assessment experience, the SUV comfortably fits two car seats but cannot accommodate three car seats across the back row.

What Is the Latch System Grade for the Genesis Electrified GV70?

The Genesis Electrified GV70 earns an A grade for its Latch (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) system, making the initial installation step straightforward. The two sets of lower anchors are easily exposed for quick connection. The three top tether anchors are situated midway down the seatbacks, are clearly marked, and are simple to use, reducing installation frustration.

How Easy Is It to Install a Rear-Facing Car Seat?

Installation of rear-facing seats is technically simple, but space is the primary constraint.

  • Infant Seat (Grade B): We found installation to be easy. However, it required moving the front passenger seat forward to achieve a proper fit. For a passenger of approximately 5-foot-6, legroom was acceptable, but anyone taller would likely feel cramped.
  • Rear-Facing Convertible Seat (Grade C): This installation was more challenging. The larger size of a convertible seat necessitated moving the front passenger seat even further forward, resulting in significantly cramped conditions for the occupant.

Is the GV70 Suitable for a Forward-Facing Car Seat?

Yes, the Electrified GV70 is excellent for forward-facing seats, earning an A grade. The forward-facing convertible seat installed without issue. We simply raised the head restraint to route the tether strap between its posts. This setup provides a secure fit without compromising front-passenger space.

How Well Does a Booster Seat Fit?

The SUV receives a B grade for booster seat compatibility. After removing the head restraint to ensure the booster sat flush against the seatback, the fit was good. However, the outboard seat belt buckles are on short stalks, and the bolstered seat cushion pushes the booster against them. This can make it difficult for a child to independently fasten the seat belt.

What Should Parents Know About Car Seat Installation?

Always use either the Latch system or the vehicle's seat belt to install a car seat; both methods are equally safe when done correctly. It is crucial to remember that Latch anchors have a weight limit of 65 pounds, which includes the combined weight of the child and the car seat itself. Once this limit is reached, you must switch to using the seat belt for installation.

For families prioritizing ease of use, the Genesis Electrified GV70 is best suited for those who primarily need to install forward-facing seats or who have shorter front-seat passengers. The excellent Latch system simplifies the process, but the limited legroom with rear-facing seats is a significant consideration before purchase.
