Description

Who we are Flip sits at the heart of the logistics ecosystem, enabling senders and carriers to operate, disrupt and grow in powerful and effective ways. Flip is a medium sized company which is profitable, growing, and harnesses the power of product, engineering and customer-centric design to build high quality, elegant and valuable solutions that our customers love to use. The environment is informal but technically very mature with a consistent focus on creating a workspace which is free from the typical bottlenecks that impede software engineers and designers from enjoying their work. Flip is the Product and Engineering company within the FMH Group of companies, and is part of the FMH Group Tech Org. We work flexibly with 3 days a week remote and 2 days working together in our CBD office. What is a Geek for Geek? Some companies have Site Reliability Engineers, DevOps people, engineering uplift teams, and so forth. At Flip we have Geeks for Geeks (G4G). These folks are talented engineers, who wander around among our engineering teams to help improve security, uplift quality, kaizen how we build things, how we deploy them, and how we monitor and measure our systems and more. From time to time our G4Gs join a team to help deliver a new outcome - you get your hands dirty and are not just an "architect" or "internal consultant" drawing pictures of things for others to build. What does this role require? You will need a real commitment to working collaboratively with customers, product people, and software engineers to coach and deliver well engineered solutions that you are proud of, which are a joy to inherit, maintain and extend. This role requires strong engineering skills, the discipline to think critically and independently, with a willingness to engage in new ideas and unfamiliar technical challenges. You are an excellent coach to other engineers, and are constantly delivering kaizen across multiple tech stacks, teams, and business units. You will also need to be able to discuss system and software design reasoning with an open mind, based on customer and product considerations. You will require a very keen ability to identify the right problems to help solve, and to be self managed and highly reliable. You work hard, but you rest easy. You help others do the same. Who will I be working with? You will be working with a range of Software and Infrastructure Engineers across several systems and business units. You will find the conversations you have are underpinned by varying levels of technical knowledge, but always with a sense of curiosity and a satisfaction of learning and achieving ever increasing levels of engineering excellence. You will work with teams of engineers in Melbourne, Albury, and Sydney across a group of companies owned by the FMH Group. Can you tell me about the leadership? Leadership largely resides in existing Developers and Designers. You will also find a very experienced technical CEO that facilitates this mindset and works on an equal footing with everyone, although naturally, with a commercial aspect to their role. Company leadership listens closely and acts on the sentiment of both customers and technology whilst looking after business direction and commercial success. How are things organised? You will be working with around 25 Engineers who are working across several different pieces of software in integration, infrastructure and software engineering. Each team in each of the business units will have different practice and approaches, so you will need to be flexible and agile of mind. Who Makes Technical Decisions? Developers do this together. You’re empowered not only to step up to lead, but to also step up to follow: You won’t be forced to accept things the way they are, but you will need the insight and maturity to determine when best to champion ideas, or when to disagree and commit with the team. Why would I apply? You might be looking for a mature and respectful environment with a high level of technical competence that is self organising. You might be after an uncomplicated and transparent hiring process. Three technical conversations. There will be technical discussions where hopefully you will feel challenged yet supported. You might be after a flexible work environment. Whilst this is not a remote role, you might enjoy a day or three working from home each week. Or you may not be a morning person. No stress. Generous salary. Why might I not apply? You might prefer an environment where you get to make solo decisions. If so then this role will probably not be a good fit. You will need a creative, tenacious and collaborative approach to creating solutions and be able to comfortably communicate your thoughts whilst listening to those you work with. You might be looking for a more traditional “lead” role with direct reports under you. To apply for this role you will need to be currently residing in Melbourne and have permanent Australian residency status. No agency canvassing. Requirements What is the technology and what processes are used? Hiring is not made purely on the basis of specific languages and tooling but as a guide the following skills would be useful: Back end development in .NET/.NET Core with C# or other CLR languages Azure and AWS based Cloud experience Some of the teams have some on premise deployments, also mainly Microsoft based. A good understanding of networking, operating systems, and infrastructure. Experience with building and maintaining IaaC with CI/CD We try to follow lean principles more than Agile™ Transparent, honest, and blameless communication Benefits Flexible work arrangements. $1,000 per annum to spend on professional development and/or ergonomics.

Cadmus is a global EdTech company purposefully built for the higher education sector to break down global learning barriers by providing educators and diverse student cohorts with access to high-quality learning and assessment through one powerful platform. Built on rich, student-centric values, Cadmus empowers students to achieve their highest potential and graduate with the critical skills and knowledge to profoundly impact our workforces, communities, and evolving world. You will This isn't a role where you'll be told what to do. You are the decision-maker, empowered to figure things out and own your work from start to finish. You'll build and own features end-to-end. You will break down complex features, design the architecture, build the frontend and backend, and deploy your work independently. You'll make critical technical and business decisions. You'll be responsible for analysing your choices based on performance, scalability, UX, and business value and articulating the trade-offs to the team. You'll design and implement core systems. You'll build robust GraphQL APIs and implement critical subsystems. You'll shape our codebase and culture. You'll navigate our existing codebase with skill and contribute to a culture of high ownership, deep technical curiosity, and practical problem-solving. What success looks like In your first 30 days, your primary focus will be to deeply understand the business, the product, and the people behind it. Building strong relationships with your teammates and immersing yourself in our culture of collaboration will be essential. You'll be expected to quickly ramp up and begin making meaningful contributions to our engineering roadmap, while navigating a fast-paced environment where project timelines can be tight. Clear communication, curiosity, and a bias for action will set you up for success from day one. After 3 months, you’ll be operating with a high level of independence and ownership, trusted to lead initiatives and deliver features that directly impact our roadmap and user experience. Your contributions will go beyond code; you’ll bring forward new ideas and perspectives, even in non-technical areas, helping us evolve how we think, collaborate, and build. Success will also be defined by your ability to work effectively amidst ambiguity, identifying gaps, improving processes, and contributing to internal documentation. Resilience and durability under pressure are key; we’re looking for someone who can remain focused and effective even when the heat is on. You’ll be seen as a key pillar in the team—someone who uplifts others, drives innovation, and helps shape the direction of our product and engineering culture. Requirements Who we are looking for A senior full-stack engineer with 6+ years of overall industry experience, who demonstrates the following: End-to-End Feature Ownership: A history of leading feature development from the initial problem definition to final deployment. You should have made key architectural and product decisions, not just implemented pre-defined tasks. Front-end expertise: You have significant previous experience with React.js, TypeScript, and other web tools necessary for Front-End development. You can utilise GraphQL APIs and any styling system to visualise and optimise a functional and reactive data flow. Back-end expertise: You are proficient in multiple backend languages and frameworks and understand the differences and the strengths. Functional programming expertise, and ideally, real-world programming experience in Elixir or Erlang for a web back-end, is preferred. You can reason with data structures, strong type systems, APIs, and concurrency paradigms. Deep Database Skills: Advanced proficiency with a relational database like PostgreSQL. This includes experience with schema design, performance tuning, and the ability to write complex, efficient queries directly in SQL without relying on an ORM. Startup Experience: A proven track record of thriving in a fast-paced startup environment. You should be comfortable with ambiguity and demonstrate an ability to deliver practical solutions under tight deadlines. Love Programming: You're driven by a deep curiosity for how things work, not just what they do. You likely have personal projects, a history of open-source contributions, or can talk at length about a recent technology you've been experimenting with just for fun. Essentially, you love to build, tinker, and learn, both in and out of the office. Benefits The team We’re a globally distributed engineering team led by an experienced Engineering Lead and Principal Engineer, supported by a strong mix of senior and junior developers. The team includes five senior engineers and three junior developers, collaborating across multiple time zones to build and maintain high-quality, scalable products. With team members based in Melbourne, Tokyo, Turkey, Thailand, and India, we embrace a remote-first culture that values clear communication, ownership, and continuous improvement. Despite the distance, we work closely together with a shared focus on delivering impactful solutions and continuously evolving our engineering practices. The benefits  A flexible working culture where you have the option to work from Melbourne HQ or remotely if located outside of Melbourne A diverse and inclusive workplace where there are no barriers to anyone succeeding A surrounding team of mission-driven individuals who genuinely love what they do At Cadmus, we hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds because it makes our company stronger. We never discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, or marital, or disability status. If you share our values and our enthusiasm for education, you will find a home at Cadmus. If you need assistance or accommodations made due to a disability, please let us know.
